Dialogues Lecture: Jeff Hawkins Answers “Why Can't a Computer Be More like a Brain?”

Jeff Hawkins, renowned inventor and founder of Palm Computing and Handspring, spoke at Neuroscience 2007, the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience. Through his career in computer sciences, he has experienced the consumer expectations for technology to replicate human capabilities. Although many of the early attempts did not meet that challenge, computing has succeeded in increasing speed and reducing size and cost. Hawkins discussed the past and future of computing, particularly how biologically inspired principles will drive many of the advances in the coming decade.
